NKAC is a small Aboriginal corporation in Toodyay, Directors are all volunteers. NKAC is registered under ATSI Act. NKAC aim to:
a) Provide opportunities to learn and celebrate Aboriginal heritage culture of the area through projects and activities
b) Support local economic opportunities including in collaboration with other entities
c) Work closely with Shire of Toodyay (and other entities) implementing reconciliation and other inclusion opportunities.
We are not a traditional owner or native title group.
NKAC acknowledge and pay respect to Noongar Elders . Aboriginal people should be aware this site contains images & names of people who have passed. While we acknowledge the Shire covers Yued, Ballardong and Whadjuk boodja, Info provided is in good faith based mostly on Ballardong language and we understand there are differences in language across the wider Noongar nation.
NKAC has a positive working relationship with the Shire of Toodyay. The corporation appreciates and thanks the Shire for their ongoing support in promoting and celebrating Aboriginal heritage in our region. During Reconciliation Week 2021 the Shire or Toodyay launched its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2021 - 2023. During Reconciliation Week 2023 the Shire launched the second RAP 2023-2026. Reconciliation is about unity and respect. Both launches were proud moments for NKAC. NKAC Chairperson Robert Miles said it was with great pride that he was able to represent the Noongar community, and pay his respects to Noongar Elders. He also thanked the Shire for their ‘generosity of spirit’ and unwavering support for a 'living' RAP plan.
